Going Somewhere 2k19

New year, new blog posts. Hopefully. Probably.
Today, for a start, with a few pictures of snowfall as it only happens every 70 years in Schladming in Austria — historical pictures, if you will.

Man vs Nature

The most important routes are worked on daily with snow blowers, large excavators clear the roofs, two helicopters blow the snow off trees near lift routes, one valley over we hear avalanche blasts throughout the day — an expensive battle is fought against nature, and the winner is far from certain.

But the infrastructure is still holding up and the adverse conditions keep most fair-weather-fans from skiing which makes for optimal conditions for the rest of us.

I never understood why you would want to go skiing in the sun anyway — the snow is melting, the slopes are icy, and half of Austria is having a field day. Much better to ski through a snowstorm and wake up to fresh snow every morning.
